2008-04-18 - easy like friday morning
It is a gorgeous spring day outside, supposedly getting up to 80 or so. Perfect. I could never stand to live anywhere that gets much warmer, quite honestly. I love spring, but loathe summer. This right here is just about my speed. Today is a good day in general. The semester is nearly over, I'm maintaining excellent grades, I am working in my breakfast room on a database and watching robins in my holly tree. Tonight I'm making stuffed mushrooms for dinner, and Leah and I have plans for tea and chocolate while watching The Sarah Jane Adventures and Doctor Who. It's not glamorous, it's not exciting, but I have never been either of those things and this suits me down to a T. It's a very weird thing, being happy. I'm not quite used to it. It helps, of course, that things aren't perfect; KC and I got into a stupid fight yesterday, we can keep up with our bills but can't afford to do stuff we want to do to the house, and stuff we manage to have done gets fouled up beyond all reason (don't get me started on the trials of replacing our back door), but mostly things are bumping along. We'll see how that goes at dinner tonight, though. Leah can be a picky damn eater; we don't cater to it much, but it is annoying nonetheless to have someone sitting there gagging and making faces, as if fresh vegetables were made of used dog food. KC, to give him full credit, backs me up one hundred percent. He told Leah last night: "Mommy does the cooking, and we can't expect her to only make stuff we like all the time. She's nice to do it as much as she does, because I know for a fact she hates meat loaf. We can't have macaroni and cheese every night, and your mother isn't running a restaurant." Little Slickster then says, "I bet she could!" Nice try, kid. You're still eating the stir-fry. I took out the mushrooms for you, but that's as far as I go. |
