2007-12-25 - oooh, a zeppelin! that's mine!

Kids are the greatest things to have at Christmas. Leah got the longed-for Webkinz (she's been begging for them since May) from my mom, and now she is singing:

"I got a hippopotamus for Christmas
My little hippopotamus is bluuuuuue..."

She got her Nintendo DS, which we actually bought the day after the election. PROACTIVE SHOPPING FOR THE WIN! Between that and the damn Webkinz she is over the moon. Adam woke up at 5:30, but I changed and fed him and put him back down, because he did not get to sleep till after 9:30 and 5:30 was way too early! Unfortunately, I came back in from his room and found Leah perched in the middle of our bed, hugging her stocking and squealing. So. KC spent about twenty minutes in the damn bathroom, started coffee, and we managed to put off going downstairs till a little after six.

Presents were opened by seven. Heh. My sister called at 9:30 to say that my mother and grandfather were on their way, with his dogs, so I got another pot of coffee going. Mass chaos. I was making cinnamon rolls, presents were flying everywhere...I made chili, because it is easy and can be done in a crock-pot, and we ate around two. Mom and Grandpop left around 3, and since then we have been relaxing. Adam was charming the pants off everyone; he's still not totally sure what's going on, but he likes ripping things and showing off for cameras, so it was a success in any case.

My only disappointment was that I got Mom a book she'd already read; she's good about not buying stuff for herself around Christmas (and also she forgets; I get a lot of books from her because she forgets she ordered something and ends up with three copies, hee) but this one, a Jodi Picoult, came out earlier this year. Ooops. So now I have it to read ("It's really really good, you keep it") but I still feel bad, so she'll probably get a bookstore gift card to make up for it.

Oh! Leah got a Simpsons Clue game from Santa as well; we played that before Mom got here. We were all so tired that we made stupid mistakes. KC went out because he made his accusation using a room that he actually had the card for. Leah dimed herself out when someone announced a suspicion; "I have all THREE!" I put my cards down face-up. (Despite that, I won.)

Now I am about to make a cup of tea and finish watching Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End>, because my husband and kids know exactly what I like. It was a really good day; Howard had dogs to play with, I got new books, my family is happy...

AND NOW I CAN START PUTTING THE CHRISTMAS CRAP AWAY! WOO HOO!
