2006-12-01 - wherein leah gets her way
Hi, I am insane, and signed up for Holidailies with a newborn in the house. Oh yeah. For those of you just tuning in, I had a baby on Tuesday. For future judgmental gossiping purposes: 1. Delivery rundown: OB/GYN. Hospital. Epidural. Pitocin boost. Vaginal delivery. Mad amounts of Percoset after. 2. Breastfeeding with willingness to supplement if necessary. Are those the biggies? At the very least, it should be enough to start. Carry on amongst yourselves! So, yeah. Anyway. I'm sort of torn. I loathe mommyblogs, but at the same time, I easily have a full month of entries built right in for a change. But I imagine that, as always, there will be enough weirdness to spread the love outward a bit. But in any event, I promise you that I will not post pictures to excess. I will not discuss poop in excruciating detail. And I will never, ever, even with irony, use the repugnant phrase "booby juice". With that said: Tuesday, November 28th, KC and I finally gave in to Leah and got her a little brother, Adam. He was due December 3rd, but my blood pressure shot up and my edema got really bad, so my doctor recommended induction. I saod sure, being heartily tired of pregnancy at that point (Doc: "Do you mind?" Me: "My mother is giving me sex tips. Can you start the Pitocin NOW?"). But, since it's my kid, after being told in no uncertain terms that I was not to go back to work, I, uh, went briefly into work to give them the rundown, went home, and promptly started having contractions. Ended up calling the doctor at 6:30 Tuesday morning, had KC drop me off at triage and Leah off at school, had them think about sending me home and then change their minds, at which point I promptly repaid them by changing my mind about an epidural. Heh. By the way, they're fun and all, but in order for them to insert an IV, they have to give you an anesthetic. Which is still a shot directly into your spine. I am mortified to report that first I shrieked and then I cried. And then I didn't much care. Hee. KC, checking out the monitor: "Wow, that was a big one." They broke my water, and then it was a case of hurry up and wait. They hit me with Pitocin about 2:30, maybe, and in another hour I was ready to push. Three pushes and poof, out popped the kid so fast the doctor nearly dropped him. We shall not discuss the whining and crying that preceded it. Suffice it to say that I was not, in fact, the bravest of little toasters. The hospital stay was interesting. They really do try to make it less hospital like, and it is very easy to become Queen for a Day over there if you're not careful. But I was still glad to get home. Mind you, I still had a bout or two of sobbing in the bathroom, and KC and Leah were prickly and irritable and bickered all evening, but we all had an early bedtime and weathered the night tolerably well. So far, so good! I think we'll keep him. |
