2006-06-26 - the hemlocks are the only young thing left. you are gone.

Poetry and I have not been on the best of terms lately. But when I heard about ElleBee, the first thing I thought of was finding comfort in words. She never steered me wrong with book recs, she encouraged me in journalling, she ran a great collab, we would discuss books of all kinds...

And unfortunately, the only poem to spring to mind was the lovely (but overused) W.H. Auden. If God gave any one person the ability to come back from the dead for the sole purpose of avenging the twee, it would be ElleBee.

So instead, I use a verse from one of her own favorites, and if I were the praying kind I would use it to ask God to help her on her way.

I am not resigned to the shutting away of loving hearts in the hard ground.
So it is, and so it will be, for so it has been, time out of mind:
Into the darkness they go, the wise and the lovely. Crowned
With lilies and with laurel they go; but I am not resigned.

Go in peace, Laura. We'll all miss you dreadfully.

And if you manage to somehow get a peek at some Harry Dresden spoilers, send me a sign.
